While the Lompoc ER provides “Basic Emergency Medical Services,” the Marian ER provides a Level 3 Trauma Center. If you’re concerned about the quality of care you do have a choice of driving to the Lompoc ER or to the Marian ER. Marian provides a larger staff with a higher level of training and experience. Marian ER is a trauma center.
Marian ER Certification For Treating Heart Attacks
Marian has received a STEMI Receiving Center designation for treating heart attacks. In addition to ER physicians, general surgeons and anesthesiologists are available at all times at Marian but not at Lompoc. Though it takes the time to drive to Marian CMS data shows patients are seen by a doctor much more quickly.
Lompoc ER Waiting Time = 52 Minutes, Marian ER Waiting Time = 14 Minutes
The ER Wait Watcher website indicates you will be seen by an ER doctor at Marian in 14 minutes and you will be seen by an ER doctor at Lompoc in 52 minutes. The Lompoc ER waiting time is twice as long as the average waiting time in a California ER. (The waiting time data from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.)
Tell EMS Team Whether You Choose Marian ER or Lompoc
If you call 911 for an ambulance and you prefer Marian you simply inform the EMS team your choice is Marian. The Santa Barbara County EMS policy (see paragraph 6 a) states: Patients may be transported at their request to a hospital outside the Base Hospital service area provided that the requested hospital is no more than 30 miles away. Marian is within the mileage range for many Lompoc residents.
Sometimes there are ambulance scheduling factors that may require the EMS team to take you to Lompoc hospital but the EMS team will discuss that with you.
Plan ahead and know the ER you prefer just in case a 911 call is required. Remember, Marian ER is a trauma center.
Santa Barbara County ambulance policy provides Lompoc residents with the right to choose Marian ER instead of LVMC.
