This safety score is a summary of five hospital safety categories: 1) avoiding infections, 2) avoiding readmission, 3) communicating about medications and discharge, 4) appropriate use of chest and abdominal scanning, and 5) avoiding mortality (medical and surgical). A perfect score would be 100 and the worst score would be 1. Each of the five categories is weighted at 20 points each. Lompoc Valley Medical Center came out as the bottom-dweller.
