LVMC claims on its website that one of the hospital’s core values is Transparency. The hospital declares it is “open and candid in all our activities.” In spite of a core value of Transparency, the hospital conceals report cards.
In early March 2017, LVMC received a certified letter from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Medi-Cal informing LVMC that its Medicare and Medi-Cal coverage has a proposed termination date effective June 8, 2017, unless certain conditions are met.
In addition, CMS provided a 128-page Report stating that following a 5-day survey in February 2017 CMS concluded that the Governing Body, (the Board of Directors), failed to govern the activities of the hospital’s operation to provide safe and quality healthcare.
Contrary to the hospital’s claim it is “open and candid in all our activities,” the hospital administrator chose not to voluntarily disclose this information to the public. In addition, the Board of Directors was complicit in withholding these documents from the public even though the hospital claims it is “open and candid in all our activities.”
Only when the news media came knocking months later did the hospital CEO, Mr. Raggio, acknowledge the existence of the Medicare and Medi-Cal documents.
Does the hospital make a practice of sharing the good news and withholding the bad news?
